The major scientific research has always been connected with aspects of lipid metabolism in both, experimental animals and man.
Summary of original scientific work in: Biochemistry of Nutrition and lipid metabolism
1) Ethanol and lipid 2) Dietary lipids, tissue lipids and unusual fatty acids 3) Studies about Essential Fatty Acids (EFA) 4) Fatty Acids of the n-6 and n-3 series 5) Cellular nutrition 6) Lipid metabolism during development and growth (chick embryo) 7) Platelet fatty acids in Major Depression and Ischemic Cardiovascular Disease.
In 1995 he has been appointed as Full Professor of Nutrition Biochemistry (Scottish Agricultural College).
From 2002 until 2009 he has been President of ARNA (Associazione Ricercatori Nutrizione Alimenti).
In 2005 he has been appointed as Contract Professor of Food and Human Nutrition at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Bologna.
In 2005 he has been appointed as President of the Italian Society of Experimental Biology, Section of Bologna “Oliviero Mario Olivo”.
In 2008 he has been appointed as Professor of Nutrition Biochemistry at L.U.de.S. University.
In 2008 he was nominated for the Kioto Prize.
In 2010 he has been appointed as Director of Institute "Paolo Sotgiu" Quantitative and Evolutionary Psychiatry and Cardiology (Research on bio molecular and neuro molecular factors in psychiatric and cardiac pathology).
